Houfeng Wu, Zhengchao Electric | Energy Tech Review | Top Medium-Voltage Switchgear Manufacturer In ApacHoufeng Wu, General Manager
Medium-voltage switchgear cannot simply be transferred unchanged from one power system to another. Site conditions, standards and operating practices can alter insulation, dimensions and protection design, while nuclear environments introduce additional qualification. Zhengchao Electric addresses these demands across air-insulated switchgear (AIS), gas-insulated switchgear (GIS), ring main units (RMUs) and vacuum circuit breakers.

From Shantou, Guangdong, Zhengchao carries customization through three disciplines spanning in-house production, pre-delivery verification and certified management systems, including nuclear-grade quality assurance. RMU cleanroom assembly and robotic GIS welding support consistency, while temperature-rise, partial-discharge, heliumleak and environmental testing verify performance. ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 systems govern processes.

Requirements are also changing. Grid operators increasingly expect intelligent assets supporting sensing, communications and remote operation. Power plants balance stability with asset-life extension, renewable integration and power quality. Nuclear customers emphasize localization and supply security alongside radiation, aging and seismic resistance, with safety-class equipment subject to licensing review and quality assurance oversight by relevant governing bodies.

“At the core all customers share the same fundamental expectations of safe and reliable operation with long-term product stability and verifiable performance,” says Houfeng Wu, General Manager.

Engineering from Specification to Production

Every OEM/ODM request starts with specification comparison and deviation analysis. A South African 11 kV AIS project demonstrates why. Thinner high-altitude air raised the required basic insulation level (BIL) from the domestic 75 kV to 95 kV. Zhengchao recalculated clearances, creepage distances and insulation coordination before revalidating the system.

For constrained overseas substations, Zhengchao reduced 11 kV AIS width from 800 mm to 650 mm and breaker pole pitch from 275 mm to 205 mm using composite insulation and electric-field simulation without compromising safety or performance. Different earthing systems reshape primary connections, PT protection, disconnectors, fuses and protection logic.

Since 2014, Dassault Systèmes technology and twelve integrated digital platforms have connected customer drawings, design, process engineering, manufacturing and inspection. Confirmed drawings flow into shop-floor process instructions, reducing conversion errors and supporting consistency across multi-batch production. CNC busbar machining controls contact-surface flatness and hole-position accuracy, supporting current-carrying, short-circuit-withstand and low-temperature-rise performance.

Zhengchao’s Fault Simulation Test Center recreates temperature-rise conditions, internal arcs, seismic events, LOCA scenarios and nuclear functional tests. Online monitoring and digital twins trace fault progression during R&D, exposing weaknesses before deployment.

Lifecycle Value and Customer Support

Relationships with State Grid Corporation of China, China Huaneng Group and China General Nuclear Power Group expose Zhengchao to evolving customer priorities.

Zhengchao operates 47 service outlets across 31 provinces and over 100 cities, with 295 personnel providing 24/7 technical response, spare-parts supply and inspections. Teams have retrofitted over 540 substations and 5,800 switchgear sets and trained more than 3,000 grid operation and maintenance personnel.

Registered in 1991, with roots dating to 1980, Zhengchao maintains a 25-year record as a provincial Contract-Honouring and Creditable Enterprise and has received the Guangdong Provincial Government Quality Award, National Green Factory designation and “Little Giant” recognition.

Proof in Operation and Future Direction

China Southern Power Grid’s Power Box in Guangzhou demonstrates Zhengchao’s application-specific engineering. Its 11 kV switchgear supports unattended operation, one-key sequential control, condition monitoring and fault prediction in a compact, high-temperature, high-humidity environment while accommodating robot inspection and water-mist fire protection. Aggregated temperature, partial-discharge, operating-status and environmental data supports a shift from scheduled to condition-based maintenance.

GB/T 3906 and IEC 62271-200 are raising safety expectations and Zhengchao’s AIS has been verified to the latest IAC AFLR classification. Integrated sensing, measurement, control and communications are advancing, while tighter SF₆ controls accelerate SF₆-free and lower-SF₆ solutions.

A new 100,000-plus-square-meter, 5G IoT-enabled facility adds automated production, testing and warehousing for oil-type and dry-type transformers and compact substations. Across APAC and overseas markets, Zhengchao translates local requirements into medium-voltage solutions through engineering, production, verification and lifecycle support, underpinning its recognition as Top Medium-Voltage Switchgear Manufacturer in APAC 2026.
