The team, having designed, deployed and supported five generations of large-scale BESS, has reunited to create the TeraStor, a product that surpasses the market standards for reliability, availability, utilization, safety and total lifetime value.

What makes TeraStor stand out is its innovative parallelbefore-series architecture, a departure from the conventional series-over-parallel designs. This strategic choice allows for the utilization of 100 percent of the system’s capacity, ensuring no discrepancy between the energy purchased and the energy available for use. TeraStor’s design minimizes downtime and facilitates immediate capacity usage and full depth of discharge. Also, because it is a factory-built and tested complete AC system, installation is streamlined to less than six hours, drastically cutting down the time from setup to operation and expediting revenue generation.
The TeraStor is designed with unparalleled built-in fire safety features, preventing cell-to-cell thermal runaway propagation by blocking it at the cell-level (Other competitive ESS only seek to contain thermal runaway within a module or system). That, combined with continuous gas mitigation technology and specialized monitoring software, makes operation worry-free. The product also features wireless technology, addressing common failure points associated with wire and connector-based control in traditional systems. In fact, the TeraStor design reduces the overall part count by over 280,000 parts, minimizing the risk associated with system complexity, integration issues, points of potential failure and maintenance nightmares in integrator-built systems. This leap in design has simplified the system and significantly enhances reliability, as evidenced by achieving five nines in third-party reliability studies.
Complementing the TeraStor is AESI’s StorView Energy Management Suite, a sophisticated software and control hardware solution. It is designed for sizing, configuring, simulating, deploying and operating the TeraStor ESS. StorView is the control system software for the TeraStor system, providing both web and Machine-to-Machine interfaces. With the StorView Web UI, the customer can configure the system and modes of operation and view real-time operational data and event information. StorView can operate autonomously using its own mode controller to provide peak shaving, ramp management, and other modes of operation. Alternatively, StorView can operate as subordinate to a Master EMS (in dispatch mode), ensuring optimal performance and ease of management for AESI’s clients.

With its manufacturing capacity set to expand, AESI is also evaluating manufacturing options in the United States and the European Union. This will allow its US customers to take advantage of Inflation Reduction Act savings and similar incentives that will soon be available in the EU.
